Pricing Digits

Aloha,

First read this:

Tim Gross reports some pretty interesting test results.

You’ll noticed that he is part of the Internet Marketing crowd by the fact that his normal price ended with a 7.  They have quite a religious following over in the IM world about ending prices with 7.   They claim it’s not a religious belief.  They claim it was tested and that’s the most profitable digit to end prices.

Oops.  What happened in this test?

That happens again and again.  The 2% of the IM world that actually test are constantly coming up with test results that overturn the 7 theory, but they constantly dismiss those results because they just know that sevens are better.

I actually did do the testing and since I don’t hang out with the IM crowd, I had no bias toward the number seven.  I used 140,000 different products across tons of markets in my test.  The digit 7 was the LEAST profitable in my testing.

What gives?

You can use Glyphius to come up with your most profitable prices, but I can also simply tell you the most profitable digits.  They are 0, 1, 3 and 5.

So your best prices to test are:

$1
$3
$5
$10
$15
$30
$35
$50
$100
$130
$135
$150
$300
$330
$335
$350
$500
$530
$535
$1000
$1300
$1335
$1350
$1500
$3000
$5000
$10000

You get the idea.  Use combinations of 0, 1, 3, and 5.  That hasn’t changed in the three years that Glyphius data has been collected.

Enjoy!

Regards,

-Diego

Any reason why $13 has been left off your list?

His usual price was $39.95, thus not using a 7

This is the list that the $13 wasn’t on…
    $1
    $3
    $5
    $10
    $15
    $30
I would have expected 9 to have been there too so that I something for me to consider when pricing products.
It’s funny 7 isn’t as popular as most people in the IM market believe because I rarely see it used in offline retail - just online.
